Focusing on Teachers' Self-Concept and Motivation.

Results of a statistical investigation relating teacher characteristics to ten dimensions of their self-concept and motivation are reported. The Self-Concept and Motivation Inventory for Teachers (SCAMINT) was used to compare the two sets of data. Specific findings for the characteristics of teacher sex, age, level of instructional duties, and teaching experience are presented, as are incidental findings relating to other settings. Implications of the study for the identification of teaching ability, administrator style, and role differentiation are noted. It is urged that more attention be paid to self-concept and motivation as focal points for promoting school change. (MJB)
