A Taxonomy for Classifying Elementary School Mathematics Content. Research Series No. 4.
Kuhs, Therese; And Others
This manual presents a taxonomy for the classification of elementary school mathematics content and provides training in the use of that taxonomy. The taxonomy is designed to classify the content of various curricular materials as well as the content of actual classroom instruction. Three factors are used to define the taxonomy: (1) general intent; (2) nature of materials; and (3) operation. There are 6 levels of general intent, 13 levels of material, and 15 different operations. The manual elaborates on each factor by specifying the definition of the levels of each factor, conventions used in conjunction with each factor to eliminate certain ambiguities that might arise, and examples for each level.
