A Workbook for Walker River Paiutes: A Tribal History.
Walker River Paiute Tribe, Schurz, NV.
Intended to complement the text "Walker River Paiutes: A Tribal History", this student workbook, like the text, emphasizes the details of Walker River history from the People's point of view. The exercises, coordinated to the chapters of the book, are designed to measure and improve the student's understanding of the material. Some exercises reinforce basic skills: reading proficiency, vocabulary, content retention, and the ability to use maps, graphs and charts. Other exercises asks students to question their assumptions, draw conclusions from their reading, and explore other sources to expand their knowledge. Attention is devoted to learning how to recognize bias and prejudice in an account and how the author's choice of words can indicate his attitudes. The format includes questions and answers, fill-in-the-blanks, matching exercises, word puzzles, games, and lists of class projects and discussion topics. (Author/DS)
