Custom-Fit Degree Plan.
Thomason, Robert
A custom-fit degree plan was developed and implemented at Connors State College in Oklahoma through support from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. The project objectives were to develop: a model of counseling, advisement, and instructional units; a comprehensive file of community and business resources; and a close community/college partnership by preparing realistic study plans meaningful to the economic structure of the area. The program was also designed to produce a formal plan for Individualized Career Education Plans, which was to be submitted to the regents for approval as a standard option at the college. During the first year, 200 freshmen were enrolled in the custom-fit degree plans. Because of policies adopted by the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education, project counselors were only able to write 112 individualized degree plans in 1977-78. Many more students were assisted in planning for effective use of electives and options. Enclosed are a sample form for planning a student's courses of study and related information sheets and letters from schools across the country that are interested in the program. (SW)
