Rice, R. Eugene; Davis, Michael L.
The final report is presented of the University of the Pacific's Program for the Coordination of Academic Planning and Professional Development. The program has the following objectives: to facilitate personal and professional growth of faculty; dispense teaching incentive awards and research grants; administer faculty development leaves; generate resources for the improvement of teaching/learning; extend faculty and staff participation in institutional planning; develop coherent programs across schools, colleges, and departments; assess program needs through institutional research; plan cost effective innovation; maintain accurate and current information for planning; and reallocate faculty resources to provide for full use of faculty. Critical issues involved in coordination, the nature of the programmatic areas, and the future of the program at the university are discussed. An external evaluation report conducted by Stephen C. Scholl is presented and appendices include the following information: guidelines for programs; summaries of 1977-78 faculty development leave projects, teaching incentive award projects, and scholarly activities; information about faculty development workshops; admissions, retention, financial aid, and enrollment distribution data; institutional goals inventory; and a report to the college president from the Special Committee to Consider the Cluster Colleges.
