Successful Foreign Language Programs in Texas Schools, 1976-77.
Texas Education Agency, Austin. Div. of Curriculum Development.
Descriptions are presented of 13 foreign language programs in Texas schools that were chosen as representative of all the successful foreign language programs in the state. Fifteen additional programs, listed by education service center region, are briefly described. Overriding characteristics of a successful program are: (1) the program keeps students involved in a multitude of in-class and out-of-class activities, (2) the program gives the students as many opportunities as possible to use their language skills and to increase their knowledge of another culture, and (3) the program has goals based on the needs of students and provides activities which lead to the accomplishment of the goals. An index to the successful programs is provided by language, level, or size of school district. (SW)
