Much Ado About Something: P H S Think Tank.
Pasadena City Unified School District, CA.
The booklet explains the activities of a Think Tank Day designed by the staff, gifted students, and parents of Pasadena High School to focus on what leaders could do for their school. After outlining the design of the day and briefly describing the movie which was presented to stimulate discussion, a list of 37 "boxes" people at the high school get into (such as peer group pressure and apathy) and a list of 28 ways to get out of the boxes (for example give teachers more money to enliven classes) are provided. It is explained that the students also made lists of the things they were proud of about the high school, and then brainstormed on five topics (ways to increase communication between students and others, ways to turn students on to learning, ways to turn weary faculty on, ways to increase participation, and ways to decrease apathy). The author states that the final activity of the day was preparing lists of practical suggestions to improve the school (such as establishing a student jury system and getting the uninvolved involved).
