Solomon Schechter Day School. Manual.
Schindler, Pesach; Siegel, Morton
By 1969 32 Solomon Schechter Day Schools existed to provide students with elementary and secondary education in the context of Conservative Judaism. These day schools are designed to extend the options for religious education already available in the afternoon congregational schools operating in many synagogues. This document outlines the processes involved in establishing a day school of this type, including gathering information on community needs and capabilities, organizing preliminary meetings of participants, setting the school's structure and policies, defining roles and relationships of the people involved, developing curriculum and extracurricular programs, planning psychological and testing services, and coping with finances. As a manual, this document is intended to serve the specific practical needs of Conservative Jewish education, and is intended to foster discussion and revision. (Author/PGD)
