Individuals or Types: A Character Analysis of Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales.
Clement, Sherrie
In a literary analysis of selected Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales, the characters were divided into three main types: human beings; plants, animals, and inanimate objects; and imaginary creations. A comparison was then made between Andersen's characters and those in traditional fairy tales. The findings revealed that Andersen succeeded in his attempt to use the fairy tale as a literary art form by portraying characters with individual and unique personalities. (Author/FL)
