Drinking in College and Alcohol Education Programs: A Review of the Literature.
Schroth, Jim
Journal of the Indiana University Student Personnel Association, Spr 1979
Some of the issues involved in understanding and dealing with drinking on campus are examined in this paper. After a brief consideration of the role of alcohol use in American society, adolescent and college student drinking attitudes and behavior are discussed. Finally, an exploration of the importance and use of alcohol education programs on campus highlights ways colleges and universities can get actively involved in preventing alcohol-related problems. It is argued that higher education must address alcohol-related concerns, and that alcohol education fits directly into the goals of higher education in America. Student development personnel are urged to take a proactive approach to the problem, involving residence halls, health services, counseling centers, and offices of student deans. (Author/BP)
