Designed to assist young people to live together more harmoniously, this second of a series of three detailed teacher's guides is meant for grades 4-6. The goal of the program is to integrate into the classroom those activities and experiences which will assist the student to appreciate the enduring importance of family life, to develop a strong concept of himself, to respect both himself and others, to recognize the importance of individuality and to accept differences, to enhance his ability to get along with others, to understand feelings and cope with them, to accept responsibility for his behavior, to clarify values and to develop competency in decision making. In addition it provides necessary factual information on which to base decisions, particularly in such areas as consumer financing, family budgeting, career opportunities and nutrition. The program is based on the idea that the family is the cornerstone of society, and the many negative social influences working against family life can be counteracted by providing positive, structured interpersonal experiences for students.
