This document contains testimony, prepared statements, letters, and supplemental materials submitted during four days of hearings held in July, 1977. Under consideration was a bill to extend for five years a number of programs authorized in the Education Amendments of 1974. Discussed are the history, progress, and funding of the following: the National Reading Improvement Act, the Assistance to States for State Equalization Plans, the Women's Educational Equity Act, and the Ethnic Heritage Studies Act. Also discussed are three programs authorized under the Special Projects Act in the Education Amendments of 1974: the Gifted and Talented Children's program, the Metric Education program, and the Arts Education program.
