The Intellectual Framework Analysis (IFA) is a structured approach to reading expository prose. Suitable for use with high school students and college freshmen, the IFA consists of a number of questions concerning the author's subject matter, classifications, value judgments, motivation, and form/content. The IFA incorporates a number of study skills necessary in reading and understanding content materials, including the following: recognizing structural organization; outlining; logical analysis; propaganda techniques; and value clarification. The IFA both reconstructs and recodes materials, thus aiding in the storage and retrieval of information and increasing understanding and retention. (A student-produced model is included.)
