Goals of Psychology Undergraduates: Majors and Non-Majors.
Malin, Jane T.; Timmreck, Carol
The vocational and educational goals of 418 psychology majors and 1134 non-majors in undergraduate psychology classes at the University of Houston were investigated. Results indicate important discrepancies between majors and non-majors on vocational and educational goals, as well as discrepancies between goals of psychology majors and those of the standard undergraduate psychology curriculum. Psychology majors are strongly interested in becoming mental health practitioners and obtaining advanced degrees for that purpose, whereas non-majors view psychology courses as contributing toward meeting their need for general education.
