Some Case Studies from the School and Community Project: Home-School Liaison.
Four case studies of community programs in which the school is the central agent are presented. The role of specialist liaison personnel and their activities is highlighted. The first example is that of a cluster of schools that use school-based welfare officers to deal with common social problems in the community. The second case describes the programs offered by a large suburban school for the further education of minority parents. The third example is that of an inner city school, serving a transient migrant population of low-income parents, that has initiated a program to improve child rearing habits among the parents. The final case is that of a school endeavouring to overcome community disapproval by providing facilities for the public and by mounting a comprehensive public relations program. (JD)
