A Microcomputer-Implemented Design Aid and Simulator (MIDAS) has been developed and used as an interactive learning system by electrical engineering students at the freshman and sophomore level. Evaluation of the system indicates that a great potential exists in the area of dedicated, inexpensive, interactive learning systems. User acceptance has been very positive. The digital simulator provided insight into the capabilities which can be provided by a small microcomputer-based system, particularly by the incorporation of digital feedback. The sophisticated level of digital system complexity that can be simulated in MIDAS using less than 5k bytes of memory suggests that the activity could be extended to moderately complex problems in other fields.
