Professional Training Activities as a Part of Mainstreaming the Handicapped: An Analytical Survey of the Literature. (Intensive Courses for In-Service Staff Development.)
Alvir, Howard P.
The paper is designed to help managers of mainstreamed programs set up intensive staff training courses on mainstreaming. A brief analytic survey of the literature is followed by a discussion of practical applications of mainstreaming (including philosophy, curriculum, support services, and evaluation). The remainder of the paper reviews procedures involved in developing intensive staff development courses. Topics considered include merging several courses into one through the selective use of performance-behavioral objectives, curriculum articulation by objectives, and the transition from teacher-centered to learner-centered programs.
