A Course in Staff Performance Evaluation: Preparing for Implementing PA 74-278 "An Act Concerning Teacher Evaluation." Instructor's Manual. First Draft.

The purpose of this manual is to provide the instructor an outline and prototypic documentation to lead a course on the topic of staff performance evaluation. The course is set up as a 30-hour event comprising 10 sessions of three hours each. This conforms with the policy of many higher education institutions and may, therefore, be used as an elective course offering. An alternate use is for a local district to use this course as an inservice program. The course sessions are presented in the following manner: session content, relation to other sessions, desired outcomes, procedures and activities, suggested readings, handouts, transparency masters, and assignments for later sessions. The instructor is encouraged to supplement these offerings with his or her own ideas and resources. The titles of the ten sessions are "Introduction and Orientation,""The Law and Guidelines,""System-Wide Goal Setting,""Preparing Instructional Objectives,""Writing Performance Objectives,""Self-Evaluation,""Target Setting Simulations,""Developing a Plan for Staff Performance Evaluation,""Editing the Plan," and "A Plan for Staff Performance Evaluation."
