This manual contains an overview of a diagnostic/prescriptive reading program designed to teach basic skills to children in grades one through six and to foster their enjoyment of literature. The elements of the program discussed include the following: individualized skills instruction in phonetic analysis, word recognition, comprehension, structural skills, and word meaning; individualized reading; and free reading. In addition, the manual provides information about the dissemination and adoption of the program, materials for use in training teachers to use the program, and the cost of program replication. A brief discussion of the results of the program is also included. Appendixes contain sample materials, including student profile cards and lesson plans. (FL)
