Mesa Unified School District Career Education Accountability Model. Final Project Performance Report. Volume 1 of 2.

The career education project conducted by the Mesa (Arizona) Unified School District was designed to develop a written objectives-based Model Accountability System (MAS) that identifies terminal career education behaviors according to several themes, specifies assessment items for each objective, and provides a monitoring system and mastery profiles for the individual student, class, school, grade, and district (K-12). The project was also designed to document and critique the development phases of the MAS and to demonstrate that MAS users have a positive attitude toward its further implementation. The activities consisted of developing, for each grade, the following: (1) a conceptual and sequential framework; (2) a comprehensive matrix of viable goals and objectives; (3) representative and validated assessment items; (4) formats for the display of test data; (5) instrumentation and procedures for the pilot testing of the model and system; and (6) a measure for assessing the attitude of participants. Data supporting each stage of development was collected, arranged for display in charts and tables, and incorporated in further revisions.
