A Model Approach to Evaluation of Teacher Education Programs.

A model is outlined for providing reliable information on the effectiveness of teacher education programs for evaluation purposes. Six criteria for sound evaluation are established: (1) Evaluation should include opportunity possibilities for modification of the program; (2) Evaluation should include feedback from those active in the field of education; (3) To assess program effectiveness, longitudinal follow-up studies of graduates should be conducted; (4) Evaluation should include all personnel related to the program; (5) Care must be taken that all information received from sources connected with the program be reliable and comprehensive; and (6) An objective evaluation of the importance of the program must be maintained.
