The Job Market for Curriculum Specialists in Higher Education.
Wood, Fred H.; And Others
The primary purpose of this national survey was to determine how many general curriculum vacancies will be open in universities in 1978 through 1981 and the nature of the search process for these positions. Five specific questions were considered: (1) How many general curriculum vacancies will be open between the spring of 1978 and fall of 1981 and where will those vacancies be located? (2) At what rank and salary will these general curriculum vacancies be filled? (3) Has there been an increase or decrease in the number of general curriculum positions in institutions of higher education? (4) What areas of curriculum study, experiences, and other factors are considered most important when reviewing candidates for assistant professor position, and are there different criteria when positions are to be filled at a higher rank? (5) What are the procedures used when initiating and completing a search for a general number of vacancies? The responses of university deans to these questions are reported. Findings indicate that there will continue to be general curriculum positions available. A list of responding deans is appended, as well as a table of generally preferred scholastic and experiential background, and salary potential in geographic areas. (JD)
