The Holt School Mathematics 1974 Program and Trends in the Elementary Mathematics Curriculum.
Holt, Rinehart and Winston (School Department) sought to investigate the curriculum area of mathematics (kindergarten through grade eight) and in particular the content and design of the Holt School Mathematics (HSM) program. For those purposes, a questionnaire was designed to assess judgments on topics such as trends in mathematics curriculum and textbook features. Results include: a reported increase in curriculum emphasis for basic skills, metric system, use of the mini-calculator, estimation skills, readiness activities, problem solving, use of manipulative materials, drill, decimal computation, percents, and student projects, a reported decrease in emphasis on sets and numeration systems other than base ten.
