Instrumentation for Environmental Monitoring: Water, Volume 2.
California Univ., Berkeley. Lawrence Berkeley Lab.
This volume is one of a series discussing instrumentation for environmental monitoring. Each volume contains an overview of the basic problems, comparisons among the basic methods of sensing and detection, and notes that summarize the characteristics of presently available instruments and techniques. The text of this survey discusses the instrumentation presently available to provide quantitative monitoring for fresh water and estuarine water. Techniques which may be developed into instrumentation are also discussed. In addition, recommendations for improved or new instrumentation are included. Each section of this volume addresses a particular pollutant or parameter and contains an introduction discussing relevant background information and a detailed critique of instrumentation techniques. Information pertinent to the individual instruments is given in the instrument notes. Topical areas include: metals; halides and cyanide; biological parameters; phenolics; petrochemicals; radiation; and physical parameters. (CS)
