Arizona's Public and Private Community Colleges: Brief Histories, Their Status in 1979, and a Look at Their Futures.
Barnes, John B., Ed.; Schultz, Raymond E., Ed.
Brief histories and program descriptions are presented for 17 public and private community colleges in Arizona. Of these, seven are located in Maricopa County. Overall, the nine community college districts had a combined budget of $115,267,361 in 1978-79 which was a 15% increase over 1977-78. Actual full-time student equivalent enrollment (FTSE) at the 45-day census period for fall 1978 was 50,037, a decline of 3.2%. The operational cost per FTSE in 1978-79 ranged from $1,602 to $2,552. Larger size in a college ordinarily resulted in lower per student costs. Individual college descriptions present the following types of data: history, enrollment, funding, operations budget, physical plant operation, faculty characteristics, student characteristics, outreach and educational programs, occupational and general education curricula, student support services, funding, and future planning projections. Appendices contain a summary for the 1978-79 budget for the system, FTSE and headcount enrollment censuses by college, a map of the community college districts, and a curricula matrix. (MB)
