Keys to Healthy Supervision.
Seiferth, Berniece
An effective supervisor is one who is skilled in human relationships and who is sensitive to the needs of teachers, students, and the public. Fair and accurate methods of evaluating teachers under them are essential. Supervisors should be committed to the theory that teachers can improve if they want to, and they should empathize with a teacher's feeling of nervousness while being evaluated. Before an evaluation, the supervisor and teacher should sit down together and discuss the process. Following the supervised period of teaching, they should meet again to discuss the observations. Finally, a successful supervisor should be able to deal frankly with a recalcitrant or lazy teacher. (Author/LD)
