Designed to provide teachers with a listing of sequentially ordered objectives in specific language arts areas, this curriculum guide for kindergarten through grade eight was developed in Hyde Park, New York, as a foundation for a total communication development program. The course descriptions, arranged according to grade, are classified under eight major categories: grammar, linguistic topics, mechanics, spelling, written expression, verbal and nonverbal expression, related language skills, and handwriting. The guide is presented in chart form with each page listing topics and subtopics, performance objectives, space for a time line, references to pertinent textbook sections, references to related activities (described in the appendixes), and space for the teacher to enter activities and comments. Appendixes suggest expectation levels for each grade, present performance objectives for a basic library curriculum, and provide 77 pages of related activity descriptions arranged according to grade.
