The New York State Annual Evaluation Report for 1976-77 Fiscal Year. Achievement Summary.
New York State Education Dept., Albany. Bureau of School Programs Evaluation.
This report focuses on the achievement in basic skill areas attained by disadvantaged students in compensatory activities. Areas reported on include corrective reading and mathematics. An overview of the report's purpose and methodologies indicates that reading and mathematics achievement data were collected for Title I participants on norm referenced measures. Data collected are presented in tables and graphs for reading and mathematics achievement in both private and public upstate New York and New York City schools. Comparisons of the data presented indicate that participation of disadvantaged students in Title I programs kept them from falling behind and even helped them catch up to their more advantaged peers. In light of the findings, this report lists aspects of the program that contributed to the apparent growth of educationally disadvantaged youngsters in project activities. Detailed descriptions of each of the projects evaluated are included. (EB)
