Competency-Based Training for Adults Who Work with Children. Postsecondary Project: Final Report.
Associates for Renewal in Education, Inc., Washington, DC.
The objective of this project was to develop and test ten module units of a competency-based training system for adults who work with young children. Phases of the developmental process are described. Training sessions for voluntary participants in the module writing project are outlined, and planning, writing and editing activities are indicated. Plans for evaluating the completed modules are pointed out. Pretest sessions were held for 45 day care personnel who volunteered to participate in the evaluation effort. Following the pre-test the adults received a copy of a self-selected module and were asked to study and practice doing the skills of the module with their young children. A written post-test and an observation were the final means of evaluation. Each module was tested by at least seven adults, and most users were able to demonstrate the module skills. Problems of cost effectiveness are considered. Conclusions and recommendations are suggested. Various forms and materials used in the development effort are attached. (Author/RH)
