Still the Darker Side of Childhood: 78 Things You Need to Know About Texas Children.
Texas State Dept. of Community Affairs, Austin. Office of Early Childhood Development.
Based on the report of the Interagency Collaboration Project to Improve Services to Children, this book presents 78 facts about Texas children from birth to 18, on topics that range from broad environmental factors to specific handicapping conditions. Amplifying these facts are comments that provide the broader dimensions of cause, effect, scope, and prognosis. Subject areas are: environment, family, health, handicaps, education, troubled youth, child care, hidden children, and services. Each subject area is introduced by a general discussion of related problems. Factual statements based on statistics are given on subsequent pages. Frequently, the facts are given dramatic graphic illustration. The sources of facts and comments are cited. (Author/RH)
