Going to College. The Study of Students and the Student Experience.
Davis, James R.
Intended as a text for students of higher education and as a resource for inservice training programs, this book describes what it is like to go to college. Part 1 reviews the kinds of research studies of college students that have been produced, including studies dealing with the impact of college, student unrest, the generation gap, interpretations of student consciousness, and trends and traditions. Part 2 consists of a fictionalized first-person narrative account of the college experience, based on individual and group interviews at a large private university. An interpretation of the narrative, based on other recent research (dealing with college selection, freshman year problems, life away from home, personal morality, and career planning) is presented in part 3.
