Pilot Study of the Efficacy of Mainstreaming-Integrating Handicapped Children. Final Report.

The report documents goals and activities of a 2-year project to study the effects of mainstreaming on the preschool child. The first year is said to have been concerned with the development of an observational and coding system for measuring the students' interaction, while the second involved validation of the system. Detailed data on student patterns resulting from mainstreamed placements are provided. Results of parent attitude questionnaires and interviews are discussed, as are results from 23 Head Start staff members. Nearly half the document is composed of five appendixes, including observational and coding guidelines. (CL)
