State Legal Standards for the Provision of Public Education: An Overview.
Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Washington, DC.
This book represents the first part of a larger, 7,400 page "Compendium of State Legal Standards for the Provision of Public Education." The entire study summarizes and categorizes the education laws and regulations of the fifty states and the District of Columbia in four areas: powers, duties, and functions; programs, materials, and facilities; quality of educational process; and accomodation and governance of students. This overview is being printed separately partly to familiarize a wide audience with the potential uses of the compendium and partly due to the usefulness of the overview itself. This volume includes the organizational outline and introduction to the compendium, thus providing a concise overview of the entire work. In addition, it contains 23 charts comparing important elements of various educational laws and regulation. The final pages include bibliographic information and two multistate agreements dealing with educational standards and interstate cooperation. (Author/IRT)
