Experience Based Career Education for Mildly Mentally Disabled. Student Career Guide.

This student career guide is designed to assist mildly mentally disabled secondary students to examine personal characteristics and to relate these to various work placements. Following a brief overview of the guide (section 1), section II contains four feedback activities designed to allow students to explore their preferences in work situations and to compare the on-site experience with presite activities and academic work. There is a chart for relating school subjects and occupations through worker trait groups, a work activity checklist, a work situation checklist, and an aptitudes assessment exercise. Section III explores sixteen values in relation to the world of work. Provided are two exercises, one to be completed during orientation and the other while at a site placement. Section IV is composed of twelve experience-site placement activities dealing with types of businesses, preferences for ideas, people, or things, physical conditions, finding work, adaptive skills, physical demands, education and training, occupational mobility, work benefits, labor unions, and sex roles. A site-placement log is also provided to record the results of the activities. Section IV provides ongoing summary activities to be completed after each site placement and an end-of-the-year assessment.
