Program Evaluation for Competency Based Teacher Education. A Brief Review of Literature and an Annotated Bibliography.

A bibliography and a review of the literature on the evaluation of competency based teacher education programs are presented. The literature review highlights over 150 references which would be helpful to program evaluators with little formal training in evaluation, and covers several aspects of educational evaluation. The general theory of evaluation, teacher assessment, program evaluation, evaluation of instructional materials, evaluation paradigms, and useful instruments are discussed. The annotated bibliography contains over 150 references, and is divided into four sections: (1) theoretical and philosophical issues: models and strategies; (2) teacher assessment; (3) development of competency based programs and modules; and (4) descriptions of existing programs. Most of the citations provide an abstract from the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) data base; for citations without an ERIC abstract, a note has been provided by the authors. (GDC)
