A Review of Inservice Education in Texas.

An analysis of staff development practices in Texas during the year 1975-76 is provided, and four principles of effective inservice education (planning, situational design, content, and support) are outlined. The summary of findings is based on data from three unpublished dissertations, which had compiled data gathered via questionnaire from teachers, principals, and supervisors in 68 Texas school districts. Information centered around the following areas: (1) participation of personnel; (2) situational design of the inservice program; (3) evaluation and evaluation techniques; (4) content of programs; (5) source and amount of funding for inservice; and (6) incentives for teachers to participate. Analysis of the data and discrepancies in the findings are provided, as well as possibilities for future paths. References are included. (DS)
