This publication seeks to provide Iowa teachers, school administrators, and others with a framework and perspective on developing programs in environmental education. The basic principles of environmental education are presented as a foundation for school programs. Strategies are identified to illustrate a framework within which existing school programs can be modified to incorporate environmental education. Learning activities included are provided as examples to guide teachers in developing their own activities. A segment is devoted to Iowa's environmental education legislation and its impact on curricula. Other specific topics include curriculum sequence, outdoor laboratories, using community resources, simulation gaming, case studies, and land use planning.
