Least Restrictive Educational Environment/Pupil Match.
Merz, William R.; Raske, David E.
A study was made to identify and define a variety of educational placement alternatives with reference to the concept of restrictiveness and to match these educational settings with the cognitive, affective, and physical development of exceptional pupils. A profile of pupil characteristics was derived and validated on approximately 200 special education pupils placed in least restrictive environments in California. The efficacy of their functioning in those environments was evaluated. Based on the study results, a system was devised for predicting program membership, to obtain a set of possible least restrictive placements for a handicapped student. (DLS)
