Long-Range Planning for Oregon Education. Report.

This study is intended to stimulate rapid adoption of long-range planning in Oregon education. A principal study goal has been to review present planning activities in the state and determine future planning needs. Emphasis has been placed on long-range planning as a specific process that should and can be incorporated within the organizational patterns of educational institutions, districts, and state agencies. Chapter 1 presents the need for long-range planning. A discussion of the planning process and major issues is included as well. This chapter is based on materials examined by the study committee and many meetings with educators and leaders across the state. The major conclusions of the committee and its recommendations are summarized in Chapter 2 for easy reference. The recommendations are grouped by level of responsibility such as local boards, state agencies, and the legislature. Chapter 3 contains a discussion of each recommendation. The purposes and expected outcomes of the recommendations are identified, together with related issues and points of concern. (Author/MLF)
