The Slower Learner in the Scottish Secondary School.
Britton, James; And Others
This collection of papers deals with the slower learner in the Scottish secondary school. The first paper, "Language and Learning," presents ways of classifying slow learners and the classroom activities designed for them. The second paper, "The Teaching of Reading," discusses reading as a thinking process and offers teaching methods based upon this idea. The third paper, "Communication Skills in Early Childhood," reports on the findings of a long-term study of the ways in which children develop and use language. The final paper, "The Socio-economic Background to Slower Learning," represents statistics from a child development study undertaken to determine the connection between slow learners and their social and economic backgrounds. An appendix contains a bibliography of reading materials for the nonacademic/disadvantaged/slow-learning pupil. (FL)
