Career Planning and Placement.
Adamson, Willie D.
These guidelines summarize dimensions of students' career planning objectives, and determine what types of career planning activities appear to be most instrumental to them in accomplishing their objectives. A second purpose is to compare the career planning activities important to students with those offered at California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly). Five major goals are (1) acquiring immediate job seeking skills; (2) gaining knowledge about specific careers; (3) gaining insight into oneself and self/career capability; (4) gaining awareness of lifestyles and work roles; and (5) gaining helpful hints and insights. These goals are matched with five action plans perceived by students as accomplishing each goal. Cal Poly's program is described in the same format. Additional information concerning the selection of a major focuses on employment opportunities in academic areas and such others as business, service, technical and trades. (BN)
