A Fieldwork Manual for Studying Desegregated Schools.
In this manual, both methodological and practical guidelines for conducting field research in urban desegregated schools are discussed. Strategies for negotiating access to and studying all participants in the educational system (students, teachers, administrators, other personnel, and parents) are suggested. Fieldwork styles, philosophies, and techniques are described, and project administration (team work, budgeting, personnel handling) are discussed. Recommendations are made concerning how to deal with ethical, political and practical problems which may arise. Six appendices provide sample questionaires and a network analysis chart appropriate to this type of field research. (WI)
