Peterson-Yaakobi Q-Sort Manual.
Peterson, Kenneth; Yaakobi, Duba
The Peterson-Yaakobi Q-Sorts (PYQS) were developed to provide a simple, effective, easily scored self-concept test which is role specific, is an alternative to paper-pencil inventories or questionnaires, and does not require external inference or norms. This manual describes two double Q-sorts. This first PYQS is for classroom and student teachers in public schools, and the second is for secondary school science students. A double Q-sort is one in which two sets of items are sorted on different criteria, followed by a comparison of the ordering between the sets. The PYQS use behavior statements printed on computer cards, which enables the completed sorts to be computer read, scored and analyzed quickly. Directions for administering, scoring, and interpreting the Q-sorts are included. Self-concept scores are indicated by the correlation coefficient calculated between the ideal and actual sorts. The measures are derived from rankings of statements which describe actual behavior. Sort items and computer program printouts are appended. (Author/JAC)
