Prepared for an interdisciplinary gerontology course at the School of Nursing of Boston University, the document recommends resources on topics related to aging. The directory is presented in 11 chapters. Chapters I and II list more than 90 texts, non-fiction works, monographs, and annotated bibliographies on aging. For each entry information is given on author, title, publisher, and date of publication. Chapter III lists approximately 30 films, filmstrips, and audiovisual aids which deal in a general way with aging. Chapter IV identifies organizations, journals, newsletters, and research programs which focus on older adults. Chapter V identifies seven projective tests for use by elderly persons and by social workers involved with the elderly. The tests are intended to help older adults understand and develop positive attitudes toward aging. Chapter VI briefly reviews portrayals of aging in 83 selections from literature and poetry. Chapter VII presents a listing of more than 50 books and educational materials on adult education. Chapters VIII through XI consist of listings of books and articles on the politics of aging, social action, retirement, aging and death, and combatting negative attitudes toward old age. Each entry identifies author, title, publisher, publication date, and journal title and page numbers where appropriate. Some of the entries are briefly annotated. (DB)
