The Alumni College Movement, 1977.
A survey was conducted of alumni colleges, which were defined as five- to seven-day residential experiences for adults sponsored by institutions of higher education and focusing on the noncredit study of the liberal arts. Forty-seven institutions were identified as having such alumni colleges; 37 institutions completed a written questionnaire and were included in the study. Objectives were to determine the origins of alumni colleges; the sponsors and reasons for sponsorship; the students and their goals; the intellectual, social, cultural, and recreational components of alumni colleges; and effects on the alumni continuing education program of the sponsors. Information was obtained from questionnaries mailed to the institutions and brochures of the alumni colleges. A bibliography and sample of the alumni college survey are included. (SW)
