Final Report for CAEL Operational Models Project.
Cooperative Assessment of Experiential Learning, Columbia, MD.
Twelve institutions with experiential learning programs in higher education were selected to develop practical models that could be useful to similar institutions. Attention was to be focused on either or both of two areas of concern for experiential learning programs: the establishment of criterion standards for assessment and the financial implications of new assessment programs. The project included several workshops: an introductory workshop to create a common conceptual context and base of information, a second workshop to review and critique preliminary models, and dissemination workshops to provide information on how to use models in other institutions. An assessment of the project by the project audit committee is presented. Brief summaries of each institution's model prepared by its authors are presented, and audit committee comments on each model are included. Outcomes and implications of the project are discussed by the project director. Appendices include agendas for workshops, an annotated list of project reports, seminar agendas, and agendas for local workshops. The following institutions participated: Antioch College, Community College of Vermont, the Consortium of the California State University and Colleges, Delaware County Community College, Florida International University, Memphis State University, Metropolitan State University, San Francisco State University, Union College, University of Kentucky, University of Oregon, and Webster College.
