Multi-Unit High School. Learning Community Leader's Manual.
Firestone, Peggy; And Others
The purpose of this manual is to provide learning community leaders orientation to the leadership role and its responsibilities. This book is a guide through the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation stages of community growth. Close attention to the manual will allow a learning community leader to: (1) recruit a staff of committed teachers and students, (2) implement shared decision-making and problem-solving, (3) maintain open communication among staff, students, parents, and administration, (4) establish a climate of trust in the learning community, (5) successfully communicate the learning community goals, objectives, and processes to the public, (6) implement a systematic educational planning, assessment, and evaluation process, (7) schedule space and time to meet learning community needs, (8) establish a guidance counselor as a significant member of the learning community team, (9) establish and maintain acceptable and productive standards for student behavior, (10) develop a learning community budget based on program and learning goals, and (11) use specific measurement tools. As part of the process teachers and students are encouraged to participate equally in the planning and decision-making of their learning community curriculum, learning behaviors, and learning environment.
