Developed in West Virginia as part of a statewide effort to improve reading achievement through a competency based staff development program, this inservice instructional packet on work and study skills is one of five devised to present classroom teachers with the essential competencies and learner outcomes involved in developmental reading. The materials in this packet are designed to offer teachers a knowledge of work and study skills along with opportunities to analyze and synthesize test data at the classroom level, to formulate instructional strategies for work and study skills, and to evaluate an instructional plan for work and study skills. The packet also contains guidelines for conducting the inservice program; the gestalt, rationale, objectives, and schedule for the program; a self-evaluation record; a transparency on work and study skills; and an evaluation record for the inservice program.
