This publication is a handbook for water pollution control personnel to guide them towards a successful public relations program. This handbook was written to incorporate the latest methods of teaching basic public information techniques to the non-professional in this area. Contents include: (1) a rationale for a public information program; (2) an explanation of how to write a good news release; (3) tips for getting news releases printed; (4) adapting news releases to various media; (5) suggestions on how to organize and run a speakers program; (6) instructions on running a public relations campaign on sewer construction projects and water pollution control facility construction projects; and (7) a case history of a public information program run by an engineer. Although aimed at those involved in the public and water pollution control work, this publication may also be useful to water pollution control equipment manufacturers and suppliers and to interested citizens groups as well.
