Taxonomy and Numeric Codification for Policy and Procedures Manual.
Denver Community Coll., CO.
The initial phase of a project to design a policy and procedures manual for the internal use of the Community College of Denver (CCD) resulted in the development of a taxonomy with a numeric codification scheme for all facets of CCD operations to organize this manual. Three factors were considered in establishing broad classifications to cover every aspect of the role and mission, functions and responsibilities of the college: (1) classifications must represent commonly acceptable, functional categories; (2) classifications must reflect the general organizational structure of the college; and (3) separate categories must be assigned to areas where numerous rules, regulations, and administrative procedures exist. Based on these considerations, the following nine broad categories were established: community relations, the Denver Area Council, administration, business services, student services, personnel, instruction, special services, and capital construction. For each of the broad categories and the five subcategories within each, the taxonomy, classification codes, and samples of the types of policy and procedural guidelines suitable for each category are presented.
